Virgin Galactic is seeking a talented and motivated Project Specialist, Maintenance Service Engineering to be a part of our Flight Maintenance team to support our mission. As a Project Specialist, Maintenance Service Engineering professional, you will be supporting the Manager, Maintenance Service Engineering, in the development and fielding of the next generation Delta Class Spaceships (SS) and High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) Launch/Carrier Vehicle (LCV).  This role is integral to ensuring the SS and LCV are designed, built, and supported to optimize efficient maintenance and inspection activities.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Acts as maintenance department focal for in-service Spaceship and Launch Vehicle service item definition development and sustainment.
  • Establishes and manages service process plans with incorporated resources like skill type and equipment for publishing into the execution system for maintenance operations,
  • Manages, reviews, prioritizes and incorporates feedback from data analytics to improve service process plan planning for execution.
  • Leads and collaborates on maintenance department continuous improvement initiatives by gathering feedback, documenting lessons learned, and integrating process enhancements into existing fleet operations.
  • Drives initiatives for vehicle maintainability improvements for dispatch and mission reliability objectives.
  • Maintains & strategically collaborates with internal and external customers to ensure the required equipment, tools, spares, facilities, utilities, and maintenance services meet existing fleet operations.
  • Interacts and reviews 3D model-based designs for human factors maintainability and provides assessments back to design groups to drive design solutions.
  • Supports and applies specialized maintenance expertise to the development of technical publication manuals that will be released and published for operational use.
  • Authors and contributes to MSG-3 mx task analysis for respective standard numbering systems derived from 3DX based models under the direction of the RMS team.
  • Develops and manages service bill of material (SBOM) within 3DX environment to enable maintainability plan, schedule, and doucmentation for flight vehicles.
  • Engineers SBOM instance levels that include EBOM, MBOM, MPD's, Tech Pubs, Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives, and maintenance task card elements.
  • Controls as-maintained changes from the execution system of record into the SBOM architecture.
  • Collaborates with operations engineering on design changes, providing maintainability input and authoring process plans to execute engineering changes that meet Virgin Galactic standards.
  • Authors, develops and manages maintenance task card process plans within the software system.
  • Applies technical expertise to convert maintenance process details into organized data sets that enable efficient planning, packaging, review, scheduling, and closeout.
  • You may be asked to perform other related duties and projects as business needs require at direction of management.

 

 

Required Skills and Experience

  • High school diploma and /or combination of education and work experience is required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical field preferred.
  • A valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved Airframe and Powerplant license (A&P License).
  • 8+ years of aircraft maintenance or quality experience.
  • Experience with aviation MRO software highly desired.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must have proficient knowledge of engineering design software and general software: Dassault 3DExperience, Enovia, Delmia, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Project, MS Visio
  • Excellent planning and problem-solving skills, and the ability to resolve issues effectively and efficiently.
  • Focuses on timeliness and execution of tasks and deliverables everyday.
  • Seeks out diverse perspectives and helps one another win.
  • Holds themselves and one another accountable for getting the work done.

 

 

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • New aircraft vehicle production and/or deliveries preferred.
  • Project Management training/accreditation preferred.

 

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position – 8 hours minimum.
  • Able to maneuver in tight spaces through positioning self by stooping, bending, crawling – 3 hours minimum.
  • Physically able to handle items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds (unassisted).

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $81,650.00–$124,600.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
