Virgin Galactic is seeking a Senior Vice President, FP&A and Investor Relations, reporting to the company’s Chief Financial Officer. This person will be responsible for leading both the company’s Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and Investor Relations functions through the rapid growth phase in commercial spaceflight operations, and beyond. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to drive internal financial results and external investor communications at a company that is making space accessible to humans on an unprecedented scale.

 

The SVP of FP&A and Investor Relations will be a strategic thinker with the strong analytical, business partnering, and communication skills required to optimize key financial decisions for the company, drive consensus, and ensure follow through across multiple disciplines.  The selected candidate will also be responsible for formulating corporate themes and specific messaging for all investor communications, including earnings calls. You will possess the leadership skills to continue the effective development of a diverse and high-performing team. The candidate will wear multiple hats and demonstrate a bias towards action in a low ego and collegial company culture.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Play a lead role in the company’s strategic planning process, evaluating capital needs and developing a rolling multi-year investment plan based on optimization of financial outcomes
  • Lead the company’s annual and long-range financial planning process, including cash flow projection / optimization, and P&L forecast refinement
  • Conduct cost/benefit analyses on investment opportunities across all corporate departments and make go/wait/no-go recommendations to leadership team
  • Act as a financial business partner to top management in interpreting and using financial data to drive business results
  • Drive the consolidated budgeting process across all business units, track performance to budgets, and link changes to business drivers
  • Create financial presentations for Board Meetings
  • Assist with development of supply chain strategies based on strategic needs, cost/benefit tradeoffs of outsourcing vs insourcing, minimum volume considerations, and other factors. Be a key stakeholder in major supply chain contract formulation and negotiations
  • Develop investor messaging based on key financial themes to demonstrate progress and economic merits of the company as we rapidly grow our commercial spaceflight operations
  • Drive earnings call process, including internal and external logistics and follow-ups with sell-side analysts. Manage communications with the retail investor community and institutional investors. Plan and coordinate non-deal roadshows and investor conferences
  • Manage, mentor, influence, and grow a high-performance team to help drive the business

 

 

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or related field, 10+ years of progressive finance experience including strong FP&A foundation, and minimum 3 years in an executive leadership role. MBA or CPA desired
  • Proven experience as a senior finance leader who is passionate about process improvement and driving results
  • Facile with data analysis and forecasting models. Demonstrated ability to translate financial matters for all stakeholders to foster understanding and support
  • Knowledge of both corporate finance and accounting, with ability to communicate seamlessly in multiple financial modes, such as free cash flow, operating expense, EBITDA, EPS, etc.
  • Analytical skills that penetrate complex tradeoffs in order to drive clear and effective decision making
  • Strong business acumen and partnering skills that result in the SVP being a sought-after consultant to leaders across the company for planning and decision making
  • Familiarity with contract terminology and structures, and ability to recognize key contract elements for program success
  • Proven ability to develop financial systems, processes, and tools to enhance transparency, accuracy, and timeliness of financial insights
  • Past experience in investor relations at a public company is a plus, but most essential is the ability to communicate core investment theses to a diverse audience and to understand dynamics of a diverse investor base (i.e., heavy retail, growing institutional)
  • Demonstrates the executive presence needed to instill confidence and commitment from various stakeholders and constituents. Inspires others with values-driven leadership over positional authority
  • Superior communication skills, including ability to communicate clearly, timely, respectfully
  • Open-mindedness to other ideas, and ability to adjust thinking and behavior as discussions evolve  deep curiosity for the possibilities that are made available to humanity through space travel

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $300,000.00–$360,000.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
